Stadium 974

Stadium 974

Stadium 974 is a pioneering football venue located in Ras Abu Aboud, Doha. Officially opened in November 2021, it is the first fully demountable stadium in FIFA World Cup history. The name “974” refers both to the number of shipping containers used in its construction and Qatar’s international dialing code.

Designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects with partners, Stadium 974 was built using 974 repurposed shipping containers and modular steel elements. This innovative, eco-friendly design allowed for quick construction and planned dismantling after the World Cup. The stadium has an open design with natural ventilation, making it the only World Cup venue without air conditioning.

With a seating capacity of 44,089, Stadium 974 hosted seven matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, including a Round of 16 match between Brazil and South Korea. Post-tournament, the stadium was intended to be dismantled and relocated for future use, although it remains at its original site as of early 2025.

The stadium is easily accessible via the Doha Metro Red Line, with the nearest station being Ras Bu Abboud.
