Al Janoub Stadium is a striking football venue located in Al Wakrah, about 22 kilometers south of Doha. Officially opened in May 2019, it was the second stadium completed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Designed by the late Zaha Hadid and her firm, the stadium’s architecture is inspired by the sails of traditional dhow boats, reflecting Qatar’s maritime heritage. It features a retractable roof and a cooling system to maintain comfortable temperatures for players and spectators.
With a seating capacity of 44,325 during the World Cup, Al Janoub Stadium hosted several matches, including group stage games and a Round of 16 match. After the tournament, the stadium’s capacity is planned to be reduced to 20,000 seats for use by Al Wakrah SC in the Qatar Stars League. The removed seats will be donated to developing countries.
The stadium is easily accessible via the Doha Metro Red Line, with Al Wakrah station nearby. The complex also includes training pitches and is close to Oxygen Park, offering additional recreational space.
