Al Thumama Stadium is located in the Al Thumama district, about 12 kilometers south of central Doha. Officially opened in October 2021, it was inaugurated with the Emir Cup final and served as one of the main venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, hosting matches including the quarter-finals.
The stadium’s design is inspired by the traditional “gahfiya,” a white cap worn across the Middle East. Its circular shape and intricate, lace-like white façade emulate the gahfiya’s appearance, reflecting Qatari culture and heritage. During the World Cup, the stadium held 40,000 spectators, with plans to reduce capacity to 20,000 afterward. The removed seats are intended to be donated to developing countries to support sports infrastructure.
After the tournament, Al Thumama Stadium will become the home ground for Al-Arabi Sports Club and continue to host various sporting and community events.
