Al Wajbah Fort

Al Wajbah Fort

Al Wajbah Fort is one of Qatar’s oldest forts, located about 15 kilometers west of Doha in the Al Rayyan municipality. This historic landmark is best known as the site of the Battle of Al Wajbah in 1893, where Qatari forces achieved a significant victory. Built in the late 18th or early 19th century, the fort stands as a symbol of Qatar’s resilience and path toward independence.

The architecture of Al Wajbah Fort features traditional Qatari elements, including thick walls made of mud, stone, and gypsum. It has four watchtowers and multiple rooms that once served military and residential purposes. Though modest in size, the fort holds great historical value and has been preserved through restoration efforts.
